Fluff

I have just been up north to Wellington to visit some friends of mine as well as checkin out the city for next year (I thought I probably ought to before I make the move up there). Large women in pirate hats, more hills than Adam DiVello's television show, houses you'd expect to see in some sort of Beatrix Potter story, the potential to get hit in the face by a flying pigeon, unnecessarily good looking men and about the best Zoo I've ever been to. I mean, what more could you ask for in a city?

Tigers are actually a lot bigger than what they make them out to be on TV shows or in magazines. Like, they weren't kidding when they classed these things as "Big Cats". Don't be fooled by this photo either, the cat is quite far away - apply field of depth.

Lemurs. Now seriously, how cute are they! They are big, fluffy and have strangely large hands and feet (I think I just inadvertently described big foot). If exotic pets were still condoned, and/or legal, ye old Lemur would be high on my list!

This photo was to mark the coming of Spring, as these are the first Ducklings I have seen all year. It also marks my new thrifted $40 Dr Martens.
My friend Saraid, who accompanied me to the Zoo, and I were just admiring the Kotuku (white Heron), when a small boy about the age of 4-5 comes up to the enclosure with his mum and asks "Mum, is that a Snake Snicky?" We almost died. What in Gods name is a Snake Snicky? The fact that, well this clearly looks nothing like a Snake, and the fact he used the word Snake adjectively to describe the Snicky - Oh the hilarity!

We also visited Te Papa, a museum/art gallery type thing. My god were those birds big!
And of course... Of course, the 'Colossal' Squid. It was a bit of a let down, to be honest. What do you think of when you hear the word 'Colossal'?. Don't get me wrong, it is a very very large Squid, for Squid standards. But 'Colossal' to me makes me think, I don't know... That there is a still a hole in the roof where they had to lower the thing down from a 40 ft crane or something. Albeit, it was just a scummy blur in a bath tub.

Oh, and a big thank you to Eyeliah of Style Symmetry for her mention of me in her 'Blog to Watch' post. She is a lovely young lady!

  21. Thanks so much, I'll put you in my linklist too. Not to return the favor, but because you made me laugh. Usually I don't laugh untill I have been awake for a couple of hours (I stare grumpy at my knees and drink coffee)but when I saw your enthousiasm on these pictures I laughed. I especially liked the one with the ducks. Lemurs are very cute I agree (I don't think this is one, but it's cute anyway : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF7EgcetIaI ). I love your jacket, and your dresses in the precious post are just so pretty. I think they fooled you with that "collosal squid", I couldn't even find it in your picture!

  22. I was so impressed with the Colossal Squid myself. Did you catch the 3d movie they had of it? I squealed like a little baby. And where were these terribly good looking men in Wellington?! I want to know ;)

  23. Sounds like a fun day! Haha, and I think it's hilarious that one of the factors to "what more could you ask for in a city" is potentially getting hit in the face with a pigeon.

Thanks for the comment on my blog! And thanks for even paying it a little visit; I greatly appreciate it!!! You've got a wonderful blog yerself.
